Parental Care

Hi Guys

Just thought I'd let you in on one of my secrets. I visit the Parenting Hub regularly. They have some awesome features and articles for parents that are keen on building their families.

They too realise that  the world would be a better place if parents are better at parenting.

Do pay them a visit.

What is a Family?

Definition of a family

In the modern society the traditional concept of a family has been eroded somewhat. In the past the word family conjured up the simple notion of a group of people consisting of two parents and one or more children.
Off course, one can add to that the notion of the extended family where the grand-parents could be added to the concept as outlined above.
But today, do we still subscribe to those concepts of what a family is?
How has the notion of family changed in recent times?
Do we have to revert back to the old types of families. Would it be possible?
Let's chat about this....

Five pillars for a successful family!

Look, there are really many more than just FIVE but I thought, what the heck - let me make a start. So here goes:

  1. Brutally Honest Communication...no family member should ever feel too intimidated or fearful to say what's on his or her mind. This applies equally to both young and old.
  2. Active Listening...not the kind where you doing something else and think that hearing equals listening. Remember, hearing is a state, a position, but listening is an acvtivity. Stop and listen, especially to the young and frail and less powerful.
  3. Love Unconditionally ...this type of love does not judge, it does not set pre-conditions for showing and expressing that love. This is the kind of love that supports even if the other party committed a major mistake. This is the kind of love that does not stop when the marriage stops...the love thate even extends to enemies.
  4. Lengthen your tolerance; shorten your anger  ...the old credo still works wonders :"Count to Ten" Walk away. Bite your lips. Anger will eventually destroy your relationships and it will destroy you too.
  5. Avoid the "who's right; focus on the what's right" ...Whenever an argument breaks out, the inclination by many is to establish who is right and who is wrong. This is an unproductive exercise. Win-lose has never really worked for anybody. Rather focus and spend all your efforts and skills and energies on what is right. Then begin the process of putting in place what would get you there.
Thanks.

Death Galvanises...does it?

...and so we wait, and wait, and wait, and wait to show our family that we care about them....until death comes and just thrusts us into the midst of an emotional storm that compels us to express our truest and deepest emotions towards our families...

Why do we wait till death knocks on our door before we declare our innermost feelings towards loved ones? Or does death causes the opposite to happen? Does death, in your experience, trigger a rift between loved ones?

How do you experience this?

I vote: Restore Family as the Pivot!

A wise man said: "Someone travels the whole world to find happiness and goes right back home to find it!"

I dream that all CSI strategies could focus on more on family projects...any project that will restore the family as the focal-point in society....the pivot!
